A Quick Guide to Botox – Masseter Hypertrophy

Contrary to popular belief, Botox is not merely for erasing wrinkles. It has many uses, including treatment for Masseter Hypertrophy. Masseter Hypertrophy is a condition wherein a person experience enlargement in one or both sides of his or her jaw. There are two types: bilateral and unilateral hypertrophy.

To help put your face back into a shape, Botox is a viable solution. Botox is the number one non-invasive procedure in the world. It is usually injected directly onto the muscles, which will then cause the muscles to soften and relax. The use of Botox will not involve anesthesia. Only a slight discomfort will be felt when Botox is injected.

If you do decide to get Botox to treat Masseter Hypertrophy, there are a few guidelines to follow. For instance, you should stop drinking alcohol, at least, two weeks before the procedure. Don’t take any pills for the pain. Taking medication can cause your blood to thin out. If you get injections while taking pills, such as aspirin, you can expect bruising.

It is best to seek the professional advice of a dermatologist or surgeon before you undergo Botox. A good surgeon should be able to tell if you are a good candidate for Botox. If you are not a candidate for Botox, he or she should give you alternative choices for treating your Masseter Hypertrophy. Women who are pregnant or people who have neurological diseases and asthma cannot be given Botox injections.

Don’t just go to a random surgeon for your Botox treatment. Although Botox treatments are simpler than other cosmetic procedures, they can still cause some serious side effects when not administered by a professional. Side effects can include problems in speaking, breathing, or swallowing. Problems can arise any time after your procedure—after a few hours or even weeks.
