Debraj Shome, MD, DO, DNB, FRCS (Glasgow), FICO (USA), MNAMS, MBA (Healthcare Management, Vanderbilt University, USA), is a Consultant Facial Plastic & Aesthetic Surgeon at The Esthetic Clinic at the Apollo Hospitals, Apollo Health City, Hyderabad, India. He currently heads the Institute of Aesthetic Surgery at this JCI accredited top-line multi-specialty Indian corporate hospital.l

He previously conceptualized, developed and headed the Department of Facial Plastic Surgery at Aditya Jyot Hospital Pvt Ltd, Mumbai, India and at the Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai (India's top cancer therapy centre). In addition to his clinical acumen, Dr. Shome has a research background with interests in basic science as well as clinical plastic surgery & ophthalmology and has published more than 40 international scientific peer-reviewed papers and presented papers at various scientific forums. Dr. Shome completed his undergraduate medical education from Grant Medical College and Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals, Mumbai; one of India's oldest medical schools. He went on to specialize in ophthalmology and completed his residency from Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai. He obtained the degrees of F.R.C.S. (Fellow of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow) in 2003 and also his Diplomate of National Board (D.N.B.) in 2004. Dr. Shome then specialized in Ophthalmic Plastic surgery and Orbital surgery in a rigorous fellowship from L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, India. Dr. Shome subsequently completed an esteemed clinical fellowship in Cosmetic Facial Plastic surgery from one of the world's top centers at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, USA. Dr. Shome subsequently completed another clinical Fellowship in Head & Neck Surgery from the Department of Head & Neck Surgery at the M D Anderson Cancer Center in 2007. This fellowship, specialized in multi-disciplinary approaches to Head & Neck Oncology. This makes Dr. Shome truly unique as he has been trained separately and exclusively at top centers in both reconstructive surgeries as well as cosmetic surgeries of the face! Dr. Shome added another feather to his cap by completing the Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Management in November 2008, from one of the world's top business schools. This unique combination of top-class clinical and health practice skill sets makes it possible for Dr. Shome to develop and lead teams to make centers the best possible, both as an administrator, a man manager and a surgeon. He has more than 40 research articles published in top-line peer reviewed international journals, chapters in international books and numerous presentations in ophthalmology conferences, head & neck conferences, ENT conferences, Facial Plastic Surgery Conferences and Cosmetology conferences world over; thus, Dr. Shome is an innovator who not only practices the best in medicine but also conducts research which alter practice patterns and make up the ‘medicine of tomorrow’. Dr. Shome is currently faculty at two of the world's top rhinoplasty and facial plastic surgery cadaveric dissection courses, held at Vienna, Austria and San Francisco in the USA. The rhinoplasty course has been running successfully for 47 years in a row and Dr. Shome is honored to be given a chance to be a faculty on this course.

Dr. Shome was the winner of the prestigious Quiz Contest at the annual meeting of the All India Ophthalmological Society conference in 2006. For this honor, he was felicitated by The President of India, His Excellency, The Honorable Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. Dr. Shome has also won the extremely prestigious Colonel Rangachary award & the Hanumantha Reddy award at the annual meeting of the All India Ophthalmological Society Conference in 2010, for his revolutionary paper and invention of a nano-molecule of carboplastin (a cancer drug), which promises to change the way eye, facial & neural cancers are treated.

Dr. Debraj Shome was awarded the extremely prestigious Davies Foundation Grant Award by the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow, United Kingdom in 2010. This Grant Award is awarded to only two outstanding physicians from over the globe who have performed sterling work in cancer research and therapy, have contributed to life-saving research and have changed the entire paradigm of cancer therapy in the world. This Grant Award established through the William and Elizabeth Davies Charitable Foundation awards an extremely prestigious Grant Award to support a range of activities geared towards improving the management of cancer.

Dr. Shome has been awarded session best prizes at the national annual scientific conferences in 2003, 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010. Dr. Shome has been awarded numerous Best Researcher award grants by various organizations affiliated to the Government of India, including the Department of Science & Technology (DST), the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) as well as private organizations such as the Sir Ratan Tata Trust. Dr. Shome was awarded the first ever Bharat Biotech - LVPEI Travel Grant award in 2005 for his research efforts. Dr. Shome was also the recipient of an extremely prestigious Travelling Grant Fellowship Award from the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow for his work in Oncology research in 2005. He has been selected as  a reviewer (to review other peer surgeon’s research submissions) for the ‘Indian Journal of Ophthalmology’, the flagship journal of the All India Ophthalmological Society, 'Ophthalmology' - The American Academy of Ophthalmology flagship Journal, ‘Dermatologic Surgery’ – The primary Cosmetic journal of the world and ‘Head and Neck Surgery’ and ‘Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery’ - The topmost journals in Facial Plastic Surgery in the world.
