Acting in the movies means that you need to look resplendent and radiant all the time. As it turns out, the Fairy Godmothers are the board-certified plastic surgeons and dermatologists who skilfully wield scalpels and syringes instead of magic wands, transforming these celebrities. In a matter of hours, and sometimes minutes, doctors can perform quick, comfortable procedures that leave you looking brighter, tauter, and years younger. But, which of these procedures and treatments actually work and which ones should you undergo, if at all? After all, just because someone is a celebrity, it is not as if they are any less susceptible to products & treatments which just do NOT work. So, read on to find out who got what done, did it help & how celebrities stay beautiful!
1) Rhinoplasty
Most people seek for a beautiful, pert nose. A thinner, smaller, pert or more symmetrical nose is known to enhance the facial features hence many celebrities and all those who are associated with glamour industry undergo this procedure – many noted stars like Alexa Rae Joel, Janet Jackson, Tory Spelling, and Jennifer Grey. Or, of Mickey Rourke, Sridevi, Shruti Haasan, Shilpa Shetty, Kathy Griffin, Priyanka Chopra, Minissha Lamba, Tamar Braxton, La Toya Jackson, Cher & Koena Mitra. And although some of these leading ladies declared their surgeries were due to a deviated septum (Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz, Ashlee Simpson, Ashley Tisdale), the end result was a cosmetically appealing external nose as well (septorhinoplasty).

If one feature makes all the difference in the face, it is the nose and a well done nose job does change the face completely.

2) Botox Treatment
Since it’s a non-surgical, relatively painless, injectable treatment giving results in a quick time frame, many stars like David Hasselhoff, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Aniston, Hema Malini, Madhuri Dixit, Jenny McCarthy, Teri Hatcher are believed to have used Botox injections to look more rested and youthful. In one of many revealing moments on the hit E! Network series, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim Kardashian even received Botox treatments on camera.
Do Botox Injections Work?
Yes, they do, absolutely, completely. Botulinum toxin is very effective in removing forehead lines, glabellar wrinkles, under eye lines (crow’s feet). Botox treatment can help raise the corners of your mouth resulting in a happier looking face. Botox can also remove the wrinkles on your neck.

3) Thermage
Thermage is believed to be the most effective treatment for droopy skin which involves non-invasive radio-frequency waves. Treatment of Thermage involves delivering sound waves deep into the skin, which result in microscopic fissures (burns) that stimulate collagen production, which in turn firms up loose and sagging areas (face, neck, jowls, knees, and so on). Apparently, celebrities like Chitrangada Singh, Sonali Bendre, Deepti Bhatnagar, Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Shah Rukh Khan have all undergone the Thermage.
Does Thermage Work?
Thermage is painful. eTwo laser is a type of non-ablative laser that directs a much milder combination of radio frequency and infrared-light pulses into the skin, it is relatively less painful. But, both of them do not work. In fact, most of the times, I even struggle to figure out which is the pre Thermage and which is the post Thermage photograph. If after spending about 3000 USD, you still do not see any visible difference, what is the point of getting it done in the first place?!
4) Laser Resurfacing/Chemical Peels:
How do celebs like Vanessa Williams, Preity Zinta, Deepika Padukone, Halle Berry, CateBlanchett sustain their sleek, even toned, youthful, porcelain skin? Well, they are probably refraining from skin spoilers like smoking and prolonged sun exposure, but they are likely also been using exfoliating treatments.
How do stars like Katrina Kaif, Bradley Cooper, Sunny Leone, Mandira Bedi, Ashton Kutcher, Jenny McCarthy, and Jennifer Aniston close their skin pores & treat their acne marks? The answer to this is fractional Carbon Dioxide Laser Resurfacing Treatment.
Laser resurfacing / chemical peel treatments contain salicylic, glycolic, or lactic-based acid or laser light that helps sloughing off dead skin and encourage new skin & collagen growth that results in soft, smooth skin with fewer lines and wrinkles.
Does Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing work?
Yes, it does. In fact, it is the best laser for skin treatments and it is the only laser that works best for skin, whether the problem is open pores, acne scar marks, or even just an anti-aging tool. And, in order to be photogenic & make beautiful pictures, having an even skin tone is very important.
5) Lip Fillers
Voluptuous, well proportioned lips are said to be known as a symbol of beauty since ages. There have been sudden visible changes in the lip contours of celebrities like Madonna, Anushka Sharma, Angelina Jolie, Katrina Kaif, Britney Spears, Nargis Fakhri, Jessica Simpson. Dermal Filler Injections during the time span of their careers. Lip fillers injected into the lips can make them more proportionate & feminine.
Do Lip Fillers Work?
Yes, lip fillers (lip job) can work and look beautiful too. Anushka Sharma’s initial lip job was a messed up case, and is the fault of the ‘soldier’ and cannot be attributed to the ‘gun’.
See the video below to see Dr. Debraj Shome perform lip augmentation with lip fillers in an actress:
6) Liposuction
Liposuction is an effective plastic surgical procedure that help in removing fat in various parts of the body, the abdomen, the knees the thighs, the arms, or the face. Liposuction can be carried out by the means of ultrasound (Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction) or through VASER. Vaser Liposuction can just melt away stubborn fat from delicate areas like the jaw line, cheeks, chin thereby converting a generally ‘round’ face to an ‘angular’ or more pleasant ‘oval’ one.
Celebrities like Khushboo, Heidi Montag, Sharon Osbourne, Mahesh Babu, Nagarjuna, Rambha, Govinda have all lost weight and inches at a rapid rate at some or the other point. Kara DioGuardi got liposuction done for her knees, prior to winning bikini competition.
Does Liposuction Work?
Yes, Liposuction does work and can revamp your body and your face. But, it does have certain dangerous side effects as well – loose skin, infection, scarring, stretch marks & even death being some of them. Hence, please check with your Plastic Surgeon before considering Liposuction for yourself. See if it is appropriate for you and do consider other methods of losing weight & losing inches viz: exercise and a diet. Remember, there is no short cut to anywhere worth going!
7) Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty (Greek: blepheron, “eyelid” + plassein “to form”) is the plastic surgery operation for correcting defects, deformities, and disfigurations of the upper and the lower eyelids; and for aesthetically modifying the eyelid region of the face. This is performed for Eyelid Bags & Eyelid Sagging (Eyelid Lift / Eyelid Lifting Surgery). To name a few celebrities – Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan, George Clooney, U2 Lead Singer Bono, Simi Garewal may have used Blepharoplasty to look more rested and youthful.
Julie Chen, co-anchor of CBS’ ‘The Talk’ and host of the network’s reality show ‘Big Brother,’ revealed on ‘The Talk’ on Sept. 11, 2013 that she had plastic surgery to make her eyes look bigger. (Asian Blepharoplasty – A type of eyelid surgery that aims to create creases in the eyelids of Asian patients).
Jane Fonda told ABC News in August 2011 that she had undergone plastic surgery to remove loose skin on the bottom of her face and bags under her eyes.
Trista Sutter, the first contestant on ABC’s ‘The Bachelorette,’ had plastic surgery operations on her eyes in 2012.
Does Blepharoplasty Work?
Yes, very effective. Youthful eyes = youthful face. When people interact with you, first thing they notice is your eyes. Beautiful eyes are extremely important as they enhance your appearance. In fact, with eye bags, you could miss a promotion in your corporate career too, coz you looked tired or sleepy, etc. No scar is seen, as the surgery is done from the inside of the eye and you can apply eye makeup almost immediately post surgery.

8) Breast Implants
The most common cosmetic surgery amongst all women – Many actresses feel that breast implants and a bigger bustline is a must thing! After becoming actresses, Tara Reid, Victoria Beckham, Lisa Rinna, Pamela Anderson, Bipasha Basu, Sushmita Sen, Rakhi Sawant, Dolly Parton, Janice Dickinson, Adrianne Curry, Amisha Patel, Denise Richards, etc have seen a sudden increase in their breast sizes.
Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ told in an interview published in May 2014 for Cosmopolitan magazine that she got breast augmentation done at the age of 18. She quoted it as “best decision ever made”.
Do Breast Implants Work?
Well, yes, breast implants do work in making breasts larger. But, do they really make breasts more attractive? Large does not necessarily mean aesthetic, attractive or beautiful! In fact, many actresses have realised this as well, belatedly albeit, so Victoria Beckham & Pamela Anderson have actually got their breast implants removed later in life. Besides, breast implants can break within the breast, leaving a silicone filled mess within, ask some actresses how that feels!
9) Hair Injections
Hair Injection is a more physiological and natural process than hair transplant surgery. Hair injections with stem cells, PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) & Growth factors like the QR 678 Injections work by growing your own depleting hair. Their functioning is similar to that of manure which is put into soil; like how it enriches the soil leading to better quality crops. In the same way QR 678 Growth Factor Injections enrich the scalp and cause hair to grow again, prevent hair loss & stop hair fall.
Celebrities who have been reported to have undergone hair injections include Anaida, Nausheen Ali Sardar, Mahesh Babu, Namrata Shirodkar, Manoj Bidwai, Pawan Kalyan, Macaulay Culkin, Susan Lafayette.
Watch this video about a 32 year old man who got his hair loss problem treated with QR 678 Hair growth factor injections:
Do Hair Injections Work?
Yes, they do. They help in causing hair growth & preventing hair loss. Hair injections cause your natural hair to grow, so in that sense they are superior to hair transplantation. QR 678 growth factor injections are actually an outcome of the latest research advance in hair restoration. Nevertheless, these will not work in everyone, just like every other medicine, but an 80% success rate in complex alopecia isn’t a bad deal anyway!
10) Hair Transplant
Just like breast implants are the commonest surgery in females, the hair transplant is the commonest cosmetic surgery in males. Almost all Bollywood actors have bought hair at some point or the other – Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Aamir Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Hrithik Roshan, Jackie Shroff have all had balding patches, which disappeared, along with a change in hairstyle (post the surgery). Even cricketers like Virendra Sehwag, Jacques Kallis, Gautam Gambhir, Shane Warne and commentators like Ravi Shastri, Arun Lal & Harsha Bhogle have been seen ‘growing hair’. Hollywood actors like Sean Connery, Robert Redford & many others are similar.
Does Hair Transplantation work?
To be honest, Hair Transplantation or Hair Implantation is a misnomer. The surgery is actually a ‘hair translocation’ – take hair from the back of the scalp and put it in the frontal balding areas. The hair transplantation surgery procedure can occur with or without a scar on the back of the head – the FUT or the more advanced FUE. Hair transplant surgery has got a great success rate. It does not matter which type of procedure is been performed and in fact in majority of the cases you cannot even tell if any surgery has been performed or not – think once again of the said names.
11) Skin Whitening
Darker skinned people have always wanted to be fairer / whiter. The causes of these could be many. While one of the tragic cases of skin whitening is Michael Jackson, there have been rampant rumours in the media about Indian celebrity Kajol having gone for skin whitening surgery recently.
Does Skin Whitening Work?
NO. It does not work. And, even when it does work, it is so risky; the risks of skin lightening have made a full blog:
In short, these compounds could harm your skin forever, result in skin cancer & even cause liver failure and death. Why would Shah Rukh Khan or other celebs advertise and make ads on ‘Fair & Handsome’ & ‘Fair & Lovely’? In fact, did you know the Fair & Lovely used regularly (hydroquinone 2%) can actually cause your skin to grow darker?!
So, concentrate on skin protection, skin care & get even toned skin, but please give up the wanderlust for whiter skin!
In summary, these are some of the beauty treatments used for celebrity makeovers. How many of these work, which are safe, what are the risks, all of it has been explored in this blog. Open your eyes, evaluate the risks & benefits of plastic surgery before you think and act on them.
