Liquid Facelift Treatment

Liquid Facelift Treatment

Whether we like it or not, age creeps upon us and before we know it the very first effects of ageing shows up on the skin. The youthful plum cheeks and bright looking eyes seem to dull way with time and this happens because of loss of fat and collagen under the skin. The decrease in facial fullness is largely affected by the loss of collagen and poor skin maintenance in our late 20s. External factors such as exposure to sunlight and pollutants stress etc. also play a significant role in the ageing process. The result is a tired, gaunt looking appearance that makes you look older than you actually are. The loss of fullness leads to sagging, lines, and wrinkles on the face and ages our appearance undesirably.

A liquid facelift or non-surgical facelift is a temporary facial rejuvenation procedure that can help you defy the signs of ageing and help restore the natural youthfulness of the face.

What is liquid facelift or nonsurgical facelift?

A liquid facelift uses a combination of neuromodulators like Botox along with Dermal Fillers to lift, plump, smooth and re-contour the face and reduce the appearance of wrinkled and sagging skin. A nonsurgical facelift is a non-invasive procedure, which does not have any downtime and gives immediate and almost pain free results, and this is why it is not rated as one of the top facial rejuvenation procedures in the world.

A liquid facelift gives a seamless result without making any unnatural changes in the facial structure as opposed to the pulled and pinched looked resulting from other traditional facelift procedures. However, a liquid facelift is not an alternative to surgical facelift and should not be confused with the same. A liquid facelift fills’ the droopy facial areas but does not have any impact on the neck.

How does a liquid facelift or nonsurgical facelift work?

The use of combination of Botox and Dermal fillers gives a subtle lift, recreates and restores the problem areas and will

  • Plump up the lips and reduce the appearance of vertical lines.
  • Reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines around eyes, forehead and nasolabial folds
  • Reduce the hollow areas under the eyes
  • Restore the fullness of cheeks.
  • Reduce the appearance of scars
  • Relax and soften the facial appearance.

Liquid facelift or non-surgical facelift is a carefully crafted procedure that uses the expert combination of Botox and Dermal Fillers for longer lasting results.  Botox, when injected under precise location blocks the nerve impulses that cause muscle contractions. This relaxes the muscles and leads to minimizing or disappearance of wrinkles. As the muscles contract frequently to form various facial expressions, it leads to breakdown of collagen thus contributing to creases and expression lines on the face. The most popular types of Botox are BOTOX®®, Dysport, and Xeomin® and they are used to treat and prevent dynamic wrinkles

Dermal fillers fill in the areas, which have lost collagen over time and lift the droopy brows, jowls, and corners of mouth. Dermal fillers can also be used to reduce the appearance of signs of ageing on hands and lips. The most common brand names of dermal fillers are Juvederm, Restylane, Juvederm Voluma, Artefill, and Sculptra. The most common types of dermal fillers used are:

Hyaluronic acid: It is reversible filler and plumps the skin. The effects last for about six to eight months. If you do not like the results of hyaluronic fillers then the cosmetologist can inject another substance that will break down the filler.

Calcium Hydroxyapatite: The effect of this filler lasts for about 12-16 months and it is non-reversible filler.

Poly-L-Lactic acid: This is also non-reversible filler whose effects last for about 2 years. It stimulates the natural collagen production in the skin.

Different filler products are used in different ways by expert cosmetic dermatologists to fulfil various applications. The aim of liquid facelift or nonsurgical facelift is to lift the face and a good liquid facelift requires using different fillers to create different and desired effects. Botox is very useful along with dermal fillers  it is prevents the repeated use of the muscles, thus making sure that the filler does not break down easily leading to extended results.

Who can opt for liquid facelift?

Liquid facelift can be done on both men and women and the ideal candidates are the ones who have just recently started to notice signs of ageing and wrinkle on the skin and want to

  • Replace the loss of facial volume
  • Soften line and wrinkles
  • Eliminate the early signs of skin laxity around the chin, jaws and eyes.
  • Get rid of the drooping brow that is causing the eyes to appear tired and sleepy.

Temporary fillers give you the flexibility of testing how long lasting fillers will work on your facial features.

How to find an expert for non-surgical facelift

Although it is a completely non-invasive procedure, it does require the skills of a skilled artist to address all of the problem areas and result in natural transformation. A good injector/cosmetic dermatologist modifies his or her injection techniques to inject the right volume and pattern to lift the sagging tissues according to the individual facial features.

A liquid facelift is a combination of artistry, experience, skills and judged on the part of the injector to shape and contour the face and address both bone and fat loss. Look for a board qualified dermatologist/cosmetic dermatologist with proper visual skills, education, and experience in working with dermal fillers and Botox.

Procedure for Liquid facelift or nonsurgical facelift

A liquid facelift is a simple outpatient procedure. The first step is to find a dermatologist who can perform the procedure to match your desired results. One a consultation the dermatologist will examine your skin, explain the procedure to you, and enquire about your medical history. Do let your practitioner know if you have any sensitivity or allergy to dermal fillers or Botox or if you have any medical conditions such as neuromuscular or cardiovascular disease, diabetes, autoimmune disease etc.

In order to avoid the ‘wax museum’ look, opt for a conservative treatment and ask your doctor to increase the treatments gradually over multiple sessions.

Preparing for liquid facelift

On the day nearing the procedure, avoid getting any other facial procedure such as a chemical peel, spa, or any other treatment that can make the skin sensitive. On the day of the procedure, do not wear any makeup or sunscreen. If you have, sunburn or skin infection or wounds on the face then do let your doctor know beforehand. Skin conditions like active skin sore, herpes outbreak, pimple, rash, cyst, or infection near the intended injection site mean that the procedure cannot be performed and it is better to postpone the facelift until the condition is fully resolved.  .

Two days before the procedure avoid taking any alcohol, anti-inflammatory drugs, and aspirin. Make sure you get plenty of rest and sleep the night before the procedure.

On the D-day of the procedure, the doctor will cleanse your skin, and apply a local anaesthetic to numb the area that will be injected. All injections can be done in one session and the whole process takes about 30-45 minutes to complete. The target areas for injecting sides for liquid facelift include

  • Under the eyes
  • Around the eyebrows
  • Cheeks
  • Temples
  • Forehead
  • Under the lower eyelid
  • Nasolabial folds between nose and mouth (marionette lines)
  • Crease alongside the mouth.

After Liquid Facelift

Slight bruising, redness, and swelling in normal immediately after the procedure but it goes down in few hours and most patients are able to resume normal social and physical activities the very next day.  Follow your dermatologist’s instruction and avoid doing any strenuous exercise for a day or two. The results of non-surgical facelift are visible immediately unless the dermatologist has used Poly-L-Lactic acid, then the results will take up to 2 weeks to show.

Skin care post Liquid Facelift

  • Do not massage or touch the injected area for at least three days unless specified by the dermatologist.
  • Your doctor might advise you to ice the area to reduce the swelling but do not press the ice in the skin too much.
  • Keep your skin moisturized and always wear sunscreen before stepping out of the house.

Maintaining Liquid facelift/Nonsurgical facelift

A liquid facelift will last you for about 6 to 12 months and you might need some ‘touch ups in between to make sure that the effect remains. Your dermatologist will advise you on the same and you can schedule further appointments after your first session. Liquid facelifts are more subtle than traditional facelifts and therefore the results can give you a clear idea of how a permanent facelift will look.

Liquid facelift cost in India

The cost of liquid facelift is much less than surgical facelifts and it various on the number of factors

  • Your location as different practitioner charge differently in different cities and their fees also varies with experience.
  • The type for dermal injections and Botox that will be needed to get your desired results.
  • The number of injections needed.

Since there is no hospitalization required in non-surgical facelift procedures, you will not have to take any leave from your work. Discuss the cost of liquid facelift and payment options with your dermatologist during the consultation session so that there are no surprises afterwards.

Risks and Complications

Liquid facelift is not a replacement for traditional facelift and has fewer complications than surgical facelifts, but it is still a cosmetic surgery and can cause some rare complications such as allergic reactions, bacterial infections, and skin necrosis. The best way to avoid any risk is to make sure that you get injected only by a licensed physician such as board certified plastic surgeon, facial plastic surgeon, dermatologist or a cosmetic dermatologist. Keep an eye on your skin post the procedure and let your doctor know immediately if you see any breakouts, or allergy or flu like symptoms.
