What are the treatment options for maligned teeth?

Ans. The maligned teeth or malocclusion are the conditions of overcrowded, crooked teeth, with overbite or under bite. It is advisable to take your child for early dental evaluation at the age of 8 years. Best time for treatment is 12 -14 years of age. At this stage, jawbones are developing and permanent teeth are almost there, which is suitable for orthodontic treatments. According to the situation orthodontist will decide on the treatment plan using:

• Metal braces: these are basic and traditional option for misaligned teeth. The brackets are attached on the tooth surface, they are made up of metal. These are cost effective.
• Invasalign: nowadays these are very popular due to their aesthetic appeal. They are made up of tooth coloured material. They are costlier than metal ones.
• Veneer: they are made up of porcelain, which are tooth coloured materials. Firstly misaligned tooth is trimmed and then an impression is taken to make a copy of the teeth called the veneer. This is placed on the teeth like a cap and gives a most natural looking look.
• Ceramic braces: the bracket of it is made of ceramic i.e. a tooth coloured material. But the arch wire is metallic.

Dental implant: if the misalign tooth is not corrected by orthodontic treatment, it should be removed and replaced by dental implants. It is an invasive procedure  but the results are good and long lasting.
