Berloque Dermatitis

Berloque Dermatitis is a type of skin disorder in which patients develop a brownish to reddish discoloration of the neck and sometimes the arms because of applying cologne or perfume to the skin.

Many perfumes and colognes may have oil of bergamot, an extract of the peel of a specific orange, in them. When this oil comes in contact with the skin and the skin is exposed to sunlight, the oil of bergamot causes the skin colour to change . With repeated exposures to sunlight, the discoloration becomes permanent.

After a period of several months, the dermatitis may subside, even if not treated.

The treatment cost varies depending upon the type of treatment that is followed. Since laser treatment requires multiple sessions, it may come up to be a bit expensive as compared to other modes of treatment.
