Dermatologist Dr Rinky Kapoor in the house and you better be taking notes, because she’s going to help you banish that monsoon frizz once and for all.
But first, let’s figure out what causes this frizz
Frizzy hair is very common in monsoon and that’s because of humidity. Says Dr Kapoor: “Frizz is a sign of dry and damaged hair. In monsoon, the air is moist which dampens our hair and makes them frizzy and unmanageable. Also, this wetness leads to more dryness in your locks, making this problem even worse.”
Here is what she suggests you can do to fix your frizzy hair
You need to be diligent with hair care round the year because just putting an extra effort now is not going to make much of a difference. That said, these seven tips by Dr Kapoor help you out this season:
1. Don’t let your hair get wet in the rain
It looks oh-so-fun in movies but in reality, getting wet in the rain can mess up your hair. “When your hair gets wet, it tends to become drier and lose moisture. Also, if you get wet in rain then there are high chances of a scalp infection, which can further damage your hair”, says Dr Kapoor.
2. Don’t wash your hair too often
The more you wash your hair, the more damage you’ll cause–which by the way can leave the room open for frizz. “Washing your hair twice a week is enough. This way you can also keep the frizz level in check,” suggests Dr Kapoor.
3. Don’t oil your hair too much
“Oiling your hair again and again may clog the pores of your scalp. Plus, as many times you’ll oil your hair, you will wash them too. The result? Frizz,” she says.
4. Do apply a conditioner after washing your hair
Well, this is a thumb rule that you need to abide by if you have frizzy hair. “Conditioner will keep the dryness away and keep your mane moist for longer. You can also apply hair serum to tame your frizz,” she suggests.
5. Hair masks are a good option to fix the frizz
Frizzy hair needs constant damage protection and what can be better than using a home-made hair mask? “Just take egg whites and mix them with curd. Apply it for 30 minutes and rinse it. This is the best pre-conditioner that you can ever use for your hair. But don’t use the yolk as it can dry your hair further,” Dr Kapoor recommends.
6. Avoid treating your hair with chemicals
“I think home-made masks are the best thing for your hair, especially when you compare them with creams and gels that are laden with chemicals. These chemicals not just damage your hair but worsen the frizz,” she says.
7. Don’t blow dry or iron your hair
Blow-drying and ironing your hair will suck out the moisture making your baby hairs stand tall like a tower on your head. “Let them dry naturally”, suggests Dr Kapoor.
